Many of our trips are announced late in the spring or early in the fall (through parent mailings, student announcements and chapel presentations) and may require registration prior to our J-Term class registration deadline.

J-Term 2018 Missions - Students will journey back to Costa Rica in January.

Students will serve in many areas including Atenas, Lagunilla and Santa Rita and participate in evangelism training, Vacation Bible School (VBS) for children and serving the Tico communities. Students will learn the basics of sharing the Gospel effectively, acquire cultural competency skills, and discover unique ways to reach the hearts of children. The lodging for most of the trip will be in the town of Atenas, however students will also visit San Jose and spend a fun day at Los Lagos Resort. There will be many opportunities to interact with nationals through fellowship, sports and drama ministry.  Our group will be working with LaMar Salley, our missionary contact in Costa Rica. Lamar and his family have served as missionaries for many years and are looking forward to having our group come to serve the people of Costa Rica.

Interested in traveling during J-Term?

COSTA RICA

Here are some helpful tips to prepare you for your travel plans.

  • SAVE UP! Most trips require a deposit. We recommend saving up at least $500 to use towards your deposit.

  • GET A PASSPORT! In order to travel outside of the United States you will need a passport. Click here for passport information.

  • PAY ATTENTION TO DEADLINES!  Listen for registration deadlines and be one the first to turn in your deposits and forms.

  • HINT: Mission trips are typically offered twice a year, once during J-Term and again over the summer.

Parents or students may ask about creating additional J-Term trips. Our response is that families should choose from the broad range of opportunities that TMA is already offering.  Over the four years a student spends at TMA, they will typically have the opportunity to choose from approximately 50 different classes, eight trips and hundreds of internship placement possibilities.

Additional trips note:

curriculum offers any teen multiple opportunities for exciting new experiences. While not everyone will get their first choice every year, we believe that God will use J-Term to nurture growth in our students through new relationships, excellent experiences, and opportunities to serve.

Trips by nature involve the most planning and carry the most corresponding risk.  By the time you hear about a TMA-sponsored J-Term trip, it will have already been planned over a six month period with multiple checkpoints of approval by various experienced consultants.

In previous years students have traveled abroad to various European destinations like Germany, Italy, and Switzerland.  Be watching for trip details for J-term 2019.
